SENIOR FOOTBALLERS

Our senior footballers were in County quarter final action on Saturday when they travelled out to Askeaton to take on Abbeyfeale side Fr Caseys.

A nice afternoon for football in spite of soft underfoot conditions.

We began tentatively and it was Fr Caseys who got the early scores on the board. We slowly worked our way into the game and by mid way we were in front courtesy of a goal from skipper Dylan Cronin. However we struggled to get the scores required.

The ball was not sticking in the forward line in spite of the hard work being done out the field.it was not due to lack of effort but more about the break of the ball and the eagerness of the opposition. The scoreline at the break made for grim reading with a seven point gap opened up, 1-9 to 1-2.

The second half played out in a similar vein with the scores coming easier for the opposition. We did answer with a goal early on through Kieran Daly but this was cancelled out by a green flag for Fr Caseys.

Our points tally was poor on the day where only 3 white flags were raised.

We did however get a third goal from Gordon Brown but the gap just couldn't be closed.

Dean McLoughlin worked hard in the closing stages and added a goal and a point to leave our final tally on 4-03.

Overall it has been a good year back in the top flight but the quarter final was just a bridge too far this year.

Huge admiration to the management and players for their efforts this year. No doubt a little disappointed but we will definitely be back stronger next year.

A big shout out to James Fleming and Utility Trust for their continued sponsorship of the team

UNDER 21 HURLERS

Our under 21 hurlers opened their account with a good victory over a spirited Cappamore team.

Played under lights in Doon we began slowly and by the quarter hour lead four points to one.

The second quarter proved fruitful where we rattled off seven points and an excellent goal from James Finn to leave us in command at the break 1-11 to 0-5.

The second half we worked really hard and further points were added to leave a final score of 1-17 to 0-11

A really good start to the campaign with a long injury list

UNDER 17 HURLERS

There was no joy for our under 17 hurlers either, falling to defeat to Monaleen at the semi final stage.

We were well in this game but some wayward shooting really let us down on the day.

This team improved as each game went on but unfortunately it was not to be on Sunday.

A very hard working group of young men who will no doubt serve our club for many years ahead.

We wish to compliment and thank both the management team and the entire squad of players for their efforts this year.

Your hard work and dedication will pay off in years to come
