Division 1 Hurling League Round 2

Na Piarsaigh 2-17
Monaleen 2-23

Our senior hurlers suffered a 6-point defeat on Saturday evening in Monaleen in round 2 of the league. We had a serious gale at our backs in the opening half but could only go in a point to the good at the break. We had 8 scorers in the first 30, with Kevin Downes popping up with 2 points from centre back. Wayne Kearns entered the break with 4 to his name, 3 frees, along with Dylan Lynch buring a goal. Mark Hogan had to be withdrawn early due to injury, Will Henn taking his place. Mark O'Connor had a decent game at full back, having to deal with the constant pressure of quality ball being delivered to the Monaleen full forward line. Darragh Jordan pulled off 3 great saves, 1 in the first and 2 in the second, all keeping us in the tie. Daithí Dempsey was exceptional and our standout performer on Saturday evening, demanding greater attention from our opposition. JJ would strike a goal with 5 minutes remaining to cut the margin to 2 but Monaleen responded with a handful of points and a goal of their own. They ran out deserving winners.

Division 4 Hurling League Round 2

Na Piarsaigh 1-15
Pallasgreen 2-10

Our intermediates had a hard fought win over Pallasgreen in the club on Saturday evening. Playing into a strong wind in the opening 30, we were down by 3 at half time, 1-07 to 1-04, Marcus Hogan our goalscorer. The second half started strongly but we conceded some silly frees that allowed Pallasgreen to stay in the game. Fortunately, they did the same to us with Sweeney nailing each placed ball. We would hold out for a 2-point win in what was a solid evening's work against a tough opposition. We also had a few younger lads get a taste of intermediate hurling which will stand to them as the season goes on.

Team: Evan Condon, Josh O’Halloran, Pádraig Heaney, Leo Connolly, Tadgh Mullane, Sean Long, Conor Richardson, Evan Gilvarry, Harry McGann, Jim Beary, Paul McDonagh, Jack McCarthy, Marcus Hogan, Evan Sweeney, Sam Jordan.
Subs: Conor Stack & Cian Brosnan.
