Monaleen 2-18

Our senior hurlers got back to winning ways on Saturday evening following a comfortable win over Monaleen in the Gaelic Grounds. Result aside, it was important for the lads to get a performance following a poor second half in last week's loss to Kilmallock. And what a performance they served up. No less than 4 goals and 25 points scored over the hour, 2-16 of that in the opening half. 

JJ Carey rattled the net inside 10 minutes following good build up play from Eoin Brosnan, Will Henn and Peter Casey. Dáithí Dempsey added our second goal on 18 minutes, following up on a blocked goal attempt from Conor Boylan. Rising a striking in the one movement, Dáithí’s reaction too fast for the Monaleen defense. Dáithí struck 3 points in addition to his goal in the opening half. James Finn came into the starting 15 for this game. Selected at wing back, he popped up with a fine score from range. Ronan Lynch also added one from way out half way through the first half. 

It took us all of four minutes to get going in the second period. A strong solo effort from Emmet McEvoy from the centre of the field, laying off the ball to Eoin Brosnan on the edge of the large square. Brossie turned and buried it in the top corner. A bullet of a finish for the young man fresh out minor. He could have settled for the point but he had other ideas. Wonderful to see that eye for goal from a young player. He followed up with his second goal on 48 minutes, getting onto a weighted pass from Conor Boylan, batting the ball past the Monaleen keeper. Brozzie was a strong condenser for my man of the match but that accolade went the way of Will Henn. The Ashbrook man returned an 8-point haul for the day, all from play. He did register the one wide that we’ll put down to him working nights in the hospital last week. While our forwards were doing the business at one end, our backs were certainly doing their job at the other. Jerome came back into the team at full back, pushing Mike Casey out to centre. Both were solid and assured at the heart of the defense. 

Round 3 sees us take on Ahane on the weekend of the 27th, with the fixture details yet to be confirmed.

Hospital Herbertstown 1-18

Our intermediate hurlers recovered from their opening round loss to Bruree with a 7-point victory over Hospital Herbertstown in Caherelly on Sunday afternoon. In a game that was touch and go for close to 50 minutes, our lads eventually took control of the affair in the final 10. We entered the break trailing by 3 points, 1-09 to 1-06. The first half was a frustrating watch at times, our lads finding it tough to settle into the game. Our goal came from the stick of John Fitzgerald, fresh off the plane from New York. Good to see John returning to play following his tough season with injury in 2025 also. The second half was much brighter for Na Piarsaigh. Tit for tat from minute 30 to 45 before our lads took the game by the scruff of the neck. A brilliant solo goal from Wayne Kearns, taking multiple belts as he tore through the Hospital defense. He finished the day with a goal and 7, 6 of them frees. If Wayne kickstarted our dominance, Evan Sweeney most surely capitalised on it. The Loughmore man ended the day with 7 points, all scored in the second half. A wonderful display. Marcus Hogan chipped in with 6 to his name, 4 in the first and 2 in the second. Evan Gilvarry had a fine game at wing back while Cathall King added that bit of experience and calm at full back. A well deserved win for a finish and plenty of positives to take into round 3 in 3 weeks time against Knockainey.

A brilliant 6-point win for our Junior B’s over NewcastleWest in round 2 making it 2 wins from 2 in the championship. An excellent result putting the lads in a very positive to get out of the group.

A tough result for our Junior C’s in their opening game of the championship. Our round 1 tie with Bruff was conceded by the opposition so Sunday’s game was our first competitive outing of the season. Our goals were score by Paul McNamara in the first half and Gordon Leonard in the second. Strong displays from Sparky Ryan at midfield and Aidan Hennessy at centre back. While on the losing side, a real positive for the club to have 4 adult teams lining out on the same weekend. And great to have some of our older stalwarts making a comeback to competitive action. Onwards and upwards from here.
