Our intermediate footballers maintained their unbeaten run in the championship on Friday night following a 10-point victory over Crecora in Rathbane. The win comes on the back of a draw with Drom Broadford last week, adding to our win against Claughaun in round 2. 

We always looked in control throughout the 60 minutes while possibly lacking some clinical finishing at times. Kieran Daly kicked all 4 of his scores in the opening half, a free and a 45 along with 2 from play. Ralph Leonard rattled the net and added a point later in the half to see us leading 1-05 to 0-02 at the break.

Tommy Glynn got on the end of a lovely team move at the start of the second half to register our second goal. Crecora scored a few of their own but didn’t threaten a goal. Ralph got his second and third goal of the game with time ticking down, sliding the ball past our opponents keeper. Oran Gilroy finished off the scoring with a neat point. 

Our next game sees us take on St. Senan’s on the 9th of September. Credit to Old Christians for having the pitch in excellent condition on Friday evening following a few days of heavy rain.

Drom Broadford 3-13

We came away with a hard-fought draw against Dromcollogher Broadford last Friday making it one win and a draw from our opening two games. We started strongly, with Jack McCarthy and Kieran Daly finding the net in the first half as we went in at the break leading 2-02 to 1-04. The second half was a fantastic contest, with Daniel Collins showing his speed, scoring an important goal. This was followed by Kieran Daly converting a penalty won by his brother James. We built up a five-point lead with 5 minutes to go but a strong comeback from Dromcollogher saw them turn the game around and move a point ahead in injury time. However it was Ralph Leonard with a powerful burst through the middle and was brought down just outside the square. Kieran Daly showed great composure to win a vital free, allowing us to level the game and earn a well-deserved draw. We now turn our attention to Crecora up next.

Shane Walsh and Conor McLoughlin both made welcome returns to football after long lay-offs  due to injury. We played good football at times with Thomas Grimes playing a  stormer  at midfield and scoring 2-05. Sam Jordan also shone, scoring 5 points in the first half. Shane Walsh scored 1 goal while Gareth Airey and Michael Bowens had a point each.

Monaleen 1-15

Our minor hurlers recorded a great win over Monaleen in the county semi-final last Thursday evening, setting up a rematch with our group opponents Kilmallock in the county final. Goals from Charlie Ryan and Shane Waters were instrumental in coming away with the victory but a penalty save from Bobby Collins early in the second half was also a pivotal moment. Charlie’s goal was an individual piece of brilliance, sidestepping 2 men in the same move and calmly darting the ball to the net. Shane’s goal came with the teams level and time almost up. His long range free from the centre of the field went all the way into the Monaleen goal. David O’Keeffe returned from injury to land 2 late points to seal the win in impressive style. The county final is fixed for Wednesday the 2nd of September in Mick Neville Park.
