Congratulations to our footballers who won through to the Munster Club Intermediate Football Final by virtue of an excellent extra time and penalty win over Tipperary champions Ballina.
An epic victory played in tough conditions with no quarter asked or given.
We began well and had a goal and a point on the board inside 8 minutes courtesy of Kieran Daly and captain Dylan Cronin with the goal.
This was a very low scoring encounter with the sides level at the break 1-1 to 0-4.
Playing into the wind in the second half we managed to contain Ballina well and by the final whistle all both teams could muster were 2 points each.
And so to extra time and the energy sapping extra 20 minutes. Dylan Cronin added two pointed frees to bring our tally to 1-5 with Ballina at 0-8.
The dreaded penalty shootout was now a reality and no doubt for most a first time occurance.
Our kickers proved much more accurate racing into a 3-0 lead with Eoghan Sherlock brilliant in goals stopping 2 penalties.
Ballina to be fair brought it back to 3-2 before Evan Egan sealed the deal with his spot kick to send the lads into the Munster final.
We now face Kerry Champions Rathmore in the decider on Sunday Dec 11 with no venue yet decided.
Well done to all concerned...
