Limerick Minors Bow Out Bravely in All-Ireland Quarter-Final Clash
Limerick 1-14 Waterford 1-18
Sunday afternoon brought disappointment for the Limerick minor hurlers as they bowed out of the All-Ireland series at the quarter-final stage following a dramatic and hard-fought contest against an impressive Waterford side. In a game that ebbed and flowed, with fine margins deciding the outcome, it was Waterford who edged ahead in injury time to seal the win.

Among those who stood tall throughout the campaign were five young men from Na Piarsaigh, who proudly represented the club at the highest level of underage hurling. David O’Keeffe captained the side with distinction, supported by teammates Marcus Murphy (goalkeeper), Danny Sheehan, Alex Kearns, and Shane Waters.

David O’Keeffe led by example, his tireless work rate in midfield consistently setting the tone for Limerick. He was instrumental in creating key scores and never shirked the hard work, standing out in every game as a true leader.
Shane Waters proved to be Limerick’s attacking talisman, racking up a remarkable 51 points over the course of the championship from both play and placed balls. His contribution wasn’t limited to scoring, Shane’s work ethic and defensive efforts from the forward line were equally vital, making him a standout performer.

Despite injury setbacks, both Danny Sheehan and Alex Kearns played key roles in the campaign. Danny was particularly pivotal during Limerick’s crucial Munster championship win over Tipperary, producing a top-class performance at centre back on a wet evening in Thurles that secured Limerick’s place in the All-Ireland series. Alex made his impact in the knockout phase, showing great energy, creating scoring opportunities, and adding to the scoreboard himself.
Marcus Murphy was a steady and commanding presence between the posts. His sharp reflexes, game-reading ability, and accurate puck-outs were a major asset to the team throughout the campaign.
David was immense throughout the championship, leading by example from game 1.
While there will be disappointment at exiting the championship at this stage, these young Na Piarsaigh men can be immensely proud of their efforts. They demonstrated exceptional skill, character, and commitment throughout the season, and have established themselves as outstanding role models for the club’s Bord na nÓg players.
Na Piarsaigh GAA is immensely proud of their contributions and looks forward to seeing these talented hurlers continue to flourish in the years ahead.
Thank you to Martin Waters for this excellent piece. Well done to each of our Na Piarsaigh men involved and also to pay tribute to their families for to support their give on a daily basis to allow the lads excel for both club and county.
Shane has played a key role for both club and county in recent years. A sign of good things to come from himself, David, Danny, Alex and Marcus.
